Prevent Breakage

Healthy hot tool use is so important! if not done safely, you can burn your hair, fade your color and create split ends. So how do you do it in a healthy way?
Before you begin using your hot tools (flat iron, curling iron, waver etc.) make sure that your hair is completely dry. -The healthiest way to dry your hair is allow it to dry naturally. - before you use your iron, be sure that your iron is within a reasonable temp. Not all hair types need the highest setting that the iron will go. Best practice is to start low and adjust higher if need be. You can’t Un-fry your hair, so it’s best to start low. Once your hair is dry, and before you begin using the tool, be sure to spray your hair with a heat protectant spray. This will protect your hair from being fried, and will will also help to keep your color vibrant. The healthiest thing you can do when using hot tools, is to use them sparingly. Use dry shampoo whenever possible to refresh a previous style and just use the iron for a quick touch up. Doing a full head of hot styling every day, is the quickest way to get damaged, dull and split hair. So keep it healthy ladies
The proper way to wash your hair is to use shampoo on the roots, avoiding the ends (unless you have lots of product in your hair). Then condition mid-length to ends. It’s usually not necessary to condition your scalp, as your skin naturally creates the oils needed to moisturize. If you put conditioner on your roots, it will make your hair seem dirtier faster and leave your hair flat. Shampoo top to bottom, condition bottom to top!
Never put wet hair in a ponytail or bun! When your hair is wet, it becomes more elastic (stretchy). When your hair is damp and you put it into a hair tie, it is already stretched more than normal. When the hair dries, it loses its elasticity, and shrinks. This results in broken hair, especially hair that was pulled the farthest, like your hair line. This means more fly always and split ends! Oh no! If you need something easy to do with damp hair, you’re better off putting it in a loose low braid, or ideally, let it dry naturally.
